In a meeting between officials from Defra and Industry leaders,  it was mentioned that in spite of the impending Brexit negotiations, the UK will continue to be involved in negotiations about how to transform the way in which resources are viewed across Europe, helping create a more sustainable economy.

The waste legislation being discussed includes the Waste Framework Directive, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and landfill. The government is expected to start its 2 yr. negotiation period for leaving the EU in March, giving a departure date of early 2019.
