What constitutes confidential information?

All businesses produce different types of confidential waste, all of which could be extremely costly if they ever fell into the wrong hands.

Some examples of these confidential materials include:

  • Customer lists

How can we be sure our important company data doesn’t fall into the wrong hands?

SDR staff are all security vetted to BS7858 standard so you can be sure anybody handling your confidential material has been properly checked. All our vehicles have a live satellite tracking system installed. All material is offloaded inside a secure warehouse, protected by alarms and restricted entry system.

How do you dispose of shredded materials?

SDR recycle shredded material wherever possible. Paper is baled and sent away for reprocessing whilst plastic and miscellaneous materials are sent to a power generation facility as fuel.

How do we know when our material will be destroyed?

SDR commit to destroy all material either on-site or within 24-hours of collection. Customers are welcome to witness destruction in person at our destruction centres.

Where do we store confidential materials that are waiting to be shredded?

SDR provide customers with locked security consoles to safely store confidential waste before it is shredded. They blend in with any office space and are placed in convenient locations throughout your workplace. For added security, only one designated contact within your organisation has a key to access your consoles.

Why can’t we use an office shredder?

Most office shredders are unable to handle anything other than small quantities of paper. Also you will not have any written proof that your material has been shredded securely, which may be required by your customers.

Do I need to sort my papers before they can be shredded?

No. You don’t even need to remove paper clips, staples or binder clips.

Tips (5)

Safeguard against abuse of confidential paper waste

Confidential paper waste in your office is easily open to abuse. Lockable security bins and cabinets remove the temptation for abuse and reinforce the importance of security in the workplace.

Stored data is an important asset with real value

As well as confidential documentation, information can be stored on CDs, DVDs, USBs, servers or on computer hard drives. SDR cater for all information disposal requirements, however the data may be stored.

Avoid unauthorised or unlawful use of your data

Unauthorised use of your business data, including redundant data, is one of the biggest security threats in modern business. SDR are compliant with BS EN 15713, ensuring that your data is handled correctly even when you don’t need it any longer.

Confidential data destruction is just as important as monitoring active data

We’ve all heard tales of confidential documents found in the street and in recycling bins. SDR certify storage, collection and destruction procedures to make sure that complete and secure destruction of your data takes place.

Audit your suppliers to ensure compliance with your requirements

Auditing your suppliers to ensure that they operate to the standards you require should be standard practice, especially when it comes to handling the destruction of your confidential documentation and data. This audit should cover vehicles, premises, staff, audit trails and final destination for your materials.
